Overview
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the high‑performing inpatient team on Mulberry Ward, Macclesfield, within Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP). The post will be advertising a vacancy that has opened following a consultant move.
Qualifications
* Dual CCT holder in General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry, or
* Consultant with a CCT in Old Age Psychiatry with knowledge of adult psychiatry, or
* Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist with a strong interest in later life and complex presentations.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive psychiatric care and act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for an average of 13 patients.
* Lead a multidisciplinary team that includes junior trainees, psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses and pharmacists.
* Ensure timely, evidence‑based clinical decision‑making and patient‑centred care.
* Collaborate closely with the Home Treatment Team and Community Mental Health Teams to ensure continuity across the acute care pathway.
* Share responsibility with the Ward Manager for clinical governance, risk management and service improvement.
* Contribute to the design and delivery of safer, modernised inpatient pathways.
* Participate in incident reviews, audits and quality improvement initiatives.
* Provide teaching and supervision for medical trainees and multidisciplinary staff, fostering a positive learning culture.
* Join the East Locality Cheshire consultant on‑call rota (1:13) and participate in cross‑cover arrangements as needed.
