The Anglian Water @one Alliance is a collaborative organisation made up of our seven partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO). Together with our extended supply chain we are working to deliver over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.
We are gearing up for our most exciting and challenging Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, which will see us deliver a capital works programme larger than we’ve ever delivered before. Alongside traditional solutions we will also be focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

What will you be doing as our Town Planning Lead?
As our new Town Planning Lead you will be responsible for providing specialist planning advice and guidance, managing projects through the planning process to enable successful and efficient delivery of projects across the business. You will also support the development of an Anglian Water wide planning strategy, ensuring alignment across alliances and a joined-up approach to stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities:
Specialist advise & Planning Applications:
1. Preparation of planning strategies, highlighting planning and environmental risk.
2. Preparation and submission of Town & Country Planning applications (including schemes with the potential to be EIA development).
3. Provision, submission and management of Environmental Impact Assessment screening opinion requests.
4. Working collaborative with EIA specialists on the preparation of EIA scoping opinion requests and Environmental Statements.
Management:
5. Deputise for the Enabling Manager as required, including but not exclusively sign-off of Enabling Risk Assessments and attendance at meetings.
6. Lead engagement activities with internal and external stakeholders.
7. Work closely with internal communications teams on PR strategies.
8. Managing overall workload of the Town & Country Planning team, scheduling resource to meet planning targets.
Communication & Collaboration
9. Where appropriate engage with Local Planning Authorities and other relevant external stakeholders including statutory consultees prior to the submission of formal applications.
10. Work closely with local planning authorities to agree planning conditions.
11. Negotiation of S106 agreements with Local Planning Authorities as required.
12. Work collaboratively with design teams, engineers, and construction teams to help deliver schemes on time, on budget and with minimal environmental impact.
13. Maximise opportunities to work collaboratively with the wider business to help ensure a co-ordinated approach to planning strategy.
14. Work collaboratively with the Programme Management Team and Technical Specialists who are implementing business plans to support joined up decision making, influencing and challenging programme and strategy. Liaise with Legal and other internal departments with regards to planning matters.
Digital and Training
15. Use digital technology to drive innovation and efficiency.
16. Provide training and guidance on Town & Country Planning and Environmental matters.
17. Help develop and mentor the Town & Country Planning team and support attainment of RTPI chartership.
A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours….
To be considered for this role, you will be degree education and a member of RTPI (or eligible to join). You will have solid experience of working in a Town & Country Planning position in the public or private sector and be competent at decision making on complex and controversial projects. You will need to be a multi-tasker with the ability to work flexibly across several project, meeting deadlines, working autonomously without direct supervision. You will have advanced skills in writing and reviewing detailed technical reports, and ideally have experience of submitting Town and Country Planning applications. You will also have experience of the EIA process.
With a high level of integrity and accountability, you’ll work with Anglian Water’s best interest at heart in all activities you do. You will also need to be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, you’ll thrive on the challenges presented to you.
