Senior Automation and AI Governance Officer
Help shape safe, controlled and effective use of automation and AI across Warwickshire County Council.
About the role
In this key role, you will:
- Support the leading and operation of the Council’s automation and AI governance function, including governance of Power Apps, Power Automate and Copilot.
- Help develop, implement and maintain governance frameworks, standards and guidance to ensure safe, consistent and appropriate use of automation and AI capabilities.
- Set up and administer Power Platform Admin Centre controls, including managing environments, applying data loss prevention (DLP) policies, and maintaining configuration in line with governance arrangements.
- Act as a central coordination point for automation and AI governance activity, working with Cyber Security, Information Governance and ICT teams to ensure risks are identified, assessed and managed.
- Provide oversight of platform usage, compliance, licensing and costs using Power Platform Admin Centre tooling, producing assurance and management information where required.
- Support the evaluation, prioritisation and onboarding of new use cases, ensuring alignment with agreed governance and approval processes.
- Provide clear, practical advice to services and ICT colleagues on the safe and appropriate use of automation and AI tools, in line with governance policies.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of organisational policies, procedures and controls relating to digital automation and AI adoption.
- Work collaboratively with the Cyber Security team to ensure solutions align with security standards, controls and risk management processes.
- Where required, provide guidance and support to colleagues contributing to automation and AI governance activities.
About you
- Experience of working in a relevant ICT environment, with the ability to interpret and analyse complex information and develop practical solutions.
- Strong understanding of governance, risk and compliance considerations, particularly in relation to digital tools, automation or AI-enabled solutions.
- Experience working in or alongside an automation and AI governance function, or design authority in a complex organisation.
- Confidence working with technical and non‑technical stakeholders, including the ability to influence and guide others toward appropriate solutions.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to make decisions independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain technical concepts and risks clearly and in plain language.
- Experience contributing to policies, procedures and operational controls within ICT or digital environments.
- The ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting demands in a developing area of service.
- Experience supporting or supervising others where required.
- Fluency Duty: Able to speak and provide advice in accurate spoken English to the public.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within a public sector or regulated environment.
- Knowledge and experience of governance, risk and compliance considerations relating to automation and/or AI-enabled digital solutions.
- ITIL Foundation (or equivalent experience).
