Senior Materials Engineer

Responsibilities
* Work with many different materials including construction products, raw materials, chemicals, glass and polymers
* Select the best combination of materials for a project
* Optimize working practices
* Test materials, analyze data and design prototypes
* Look for eco‑friendly solutions
* Monitor quality and ensure compliance with legal requirements
* Develop business technical documents and deliver technical training
* Audit testing or supply chain facilities
* Manage a development team and guide input of other engineers on a project
* Translate client specifications into research, design and development of materials and working practices to ensure compliance and innovation
* Reduce costs and optimize resources by developing new technologies or products
* Understand properties and benefits of different materials to enhance design efficiency
* Understand the design process from initial concept to final production
* Work approximately 50 hours per week, usually between 8 am and 6 pm (may involve shift work or travel)
Qualifications
* BSc Honours degree (or higher) in Material Science and Engineering, or equivalent. A master’s degree or membership with a relevant engineering body may also be required for some positions.
* At least 10 years of relevant experience, or equivalent qualifications, is often considered.
Remuneration
* Newly trained senior materials engineers can start at £31 000
* Experienced senior materials engineers can earn up to £67 000*
*Salary depends on location, employer, level of responsibility, overtime and completion of industry‑recognised training routes.
