Role Overview
As a Band 3 Clinical Support Worker on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, you will deliver high‑quality patient‑centred care in a fast‑paced acute environment, supporting the multidisciplinary team and maintaining safe, effective and responsive care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in the provision of patient care in accordance with care plans, including personal hygiene, nutrition, hydration, continence care, pressure area care, mobility, rehabilitation and psychological support.
2. Assist in taking patients’ observations as appropriate for your level of knowledge, skills and competence, recording these in accordance with trust and local policies.
3. Assist healthcare professionals with treatment and carry out additional care roles under supervision and within the scope of competence.
4. Report changes to patients’ condition or health status to registered nurses.
5. Assist in care and support of visitors.
6. Maintain confidentiality of patient records in line with Caldicott guidelines.
7. Assist with general clerical tasks such as answering telephone, filing and keeping records tidy.
8. Support registered nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team across the ward, including safe transfers and escorting patients to other departments.
9. Document accurately all care delivered, clinical observations and changes in patient status.
Clinical Tasks
* Monitoring and recording vital signs (BP, temperature, pulse, respirations).
* Blood glucose monitoring.
* Urinalysis and pregnancy testing.
* Basic wound care, simple dressings and catheter care.
* Carry out timely clinical observations (NEWS2) and promptly escalated concerns to nursing staff.
Skills & Qualifications
Band 3 CSWs must possess strong clinical awareness, compassion, good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure, with delegated responsibilities carried out within the scope of their training and competency.
