Make a Real Impact Supporting Vulnerable Learners in Tameside Schools

A growing number of primary, secondary, and SEN schools in Tameside are seeking experienced Trauma Informed Practitioners to support pupils with SEMH, behavioural needs, and trauma backgrounds. 1 Particular school has the need for an immediate start that will be until July and very likely moving to a permanentl role from September 2026.

These are schools where pastoral support is prioritised, behaviour systems are in place, and staff work collaboratively - meaning you’ll be supported in delivering the consistent, relationship-led approach these pupils need.

If you have experience supporting young people with trauma, SEMH, or complex needs, this is an opportunity to step into a role where your approach genuinely changes outcomes.

About the Role – Trauma Informed Practitioner (Tameside)

As a Trauma Informed Practitioner, you will:

* Provide targeted emotional and behavioural support to pupils
* Use trauma-informed and low-arousal strategies to support regulation
* Build consistent, trusting relationships with vulnerable learners
* Support pupils in accessing learning and managing classroom expectations
* Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals
* Contribute to behaviour plans, EHCP support, and intervention strategies

You’ll be working with pupils who require structure, consistency, and emotionally intelligent support to engage with education.

Why These Schools?

* Strong focus on pastoral care and emotional wellbeing
* Clear behaviour systems - no guesswork or inconsistent approaches
* Supportive SLT and experienced SEN teams
* Opportunities across mainstream schools, SEN settings, and alternative provisions
* Flexible opportunities to suit your availability

These are environments where trauma-informed practice is understood and valued.

What We’re Looking For

* Experience working with SEMH, trauma, or vulnerable young people
* Understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional regulation strategies
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* Calm, patient, and resilient approach
* Ability to work collaboratively within school teams

This role would suit:

* SEMH Teaching Assistants
* Youth Workers
* Support Workers
* Psychology Graduates with relevant experience

All applicants will require a fully enhanced DBS and two professional references covering the last two years.
