Purpose of this role:
The Sector Advisor (SA) will support the verification of the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science. The SA will remotely sample learner work and confirm whether learners meet the standards for specific units of this qualification.
The SA will collaborate with the Standards Verifier to recommend whether units are being assessed according to national standards.
The SA must be occupationally competent and have evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the units they sample.
This role primarily involves remote sampling, with physical travel required only in exceptional circumstances.
Key Accountabilities:
Acceptance of this contract to provide services as a Sector Advisor entails the following:
1. Familiarise yourself with the specification to refer to unit content and assessment criteria during sampling.
2. Provide proof of relevant CPD annually for your appointed specialisms.
3. Undertake sampling of learner work to ensure valid and reliable assessment decisions and adherence to national standards.
4. Offer sector-specific support, advice, and guidance to the Standards Verifier.
5. Complete the Sector Advisor Report Form (SARF), detailing whether assessment decisions meet criteria, and send it to the Standards Verifier for verification.
6. Report back to Pearson and the Standards Verifier within the agreed service-level agreement (5 working days) following sampling.
7. Undertake online supplementary training annually.
8. Perform any other duties relevant to WBL Assessment related to this role.
9. Support centres in understanding and implementing required actions through collaboration with the Standards Verifier.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience Required:
Essential:
Occupational competence in one or more of the following pathways, as detailed in the relevant units:
* Bioinformatics
* Reproductive science
* Life Sciences
* Equipment management and clinical engineering
* Nuclear medicine
* Sterile Services
* Audiology
* Cardiac physiology
* Gastrointestinal physiology
* Ophthalmology
* Respiratory physiology
* Urodynamics and urological measurements
Desirable:
* Experience in delivering and assessing competence-based programmes.
* Evidence of CPD in assessment and vocational qualification delivery.
Skills & Knowledge:
Essential:
* Willingness to engage in online training and standardisation, using technology for communication.
* Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT, and interpersonal skills.
* Good knowledge of the specifications within your expertise area.
* Customer-focused approach.
* Effective time management and ability to submit reports within 5 working days.
* Ability to work effectively in a team.
* Understanding of decision implications on Pearson and operating within your responsibilities.
Desirable:
* Basic word processing and spreadsheet skills.
Requirements:
All candidates must:
* Have personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson software and a suitable internet connection.
* Possess a personal, secure email account.
* Have a postal address in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
* Declare any conflicts of interest.
* Be available for at least 8 allocations annually.
* Abide by the contractual terms.
