An exciting full-time opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming secondary school in Monmouthshire, supporting pupils aged 11–18.
In this role, you’ll provide general classroom support as well as work closely with pupils who have additional learning needs, behavioural challenges, or who require dedicated 1:1 support. The school also has a highly supportive Specialist Resource Base (SRB), offering tailored provision for learners with diverse needs.
You’ll deliver both one-to-one and small-group interventions, helping students build coping strategies, improve emotional wellbeing, and make academic progress. Experience in behaviour support or ALN settings would be highly beneficial and will support your development in the role.
This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same. Confidence, adaptability, resilience, and a proactive attitude are essential to help maintain a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every pupil can thrive.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Provide consistent one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual pupils
Provide general classroom support
Apply behaviour management approaches and effective de-escalation strategies
Promote confidence, engagement, and emotional wellbeing
Work closely with teaching staff and the wider ALN team to support inclusion
What We’re Looking For:
Experience supporting children or young people with ALN and behavioural needs or a background in youth support, care, or coaching would be highly beneficial
Flexible and able to respond positively to change
Confident in stepping up to supervise or manage a class when needed
✅Requirements (or willingness to obtain independently)
To demonstrate commitment to working in education, applicants must hold or be willing to apply for:
Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
Be aged 18 or over
An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
Level 2 Safeguarding training
A minimum of two professional references covering 24 months of employment
