Job overview

The post holder will be expected to liaise with all key members of the CDC, MDT (multidisciplinary team) and service users related to all CDC activities and pathways.

The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of patient care including directly clinically managing unwell patients within all specialities and patients affected by adverse reactions to contrast medium.

The post holder will support the CDC services when there is a medical emergency. The post holder will rotatee on a rota covering the CDC operational time frame of 7 days per week, 08:00hrs 20:00hrs and supervise the nursing team in providing cover for all opening hours of the CDC, daily monitoring of planned vs actual staffing levels and liaising with the clinical nurse manager for outpatients services when there is a shortfall in cover.

The post holder will take overall responsibility for ensuring highest level of quality, safety and infection prevention & control are always maintained. The post holder will be responsible for managing complaints, clinically relevant CDC incidents and participate in the divisional governance meetings. The post holder will continually monitor feedback to ensure a positive focus on incorporating this to improve patient care and satisfaction.

The post holder will be responsible for supervising the nursing team within the CDC, providing supervision and development and to ensure compliance of statutory and mandatory training, including completion of staff appraisals. The post holder will provide regular simulation training for all clinical staff working within the CDC for medical emergencies.

Main duties of the job

* Maintain a professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust all times, in line with trust values.
* To demonstrate clinical expertise in practice and providing direct clinical care to patients for at least 80% of time.
* To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff, within own management responsibility.
* To actively participate in the development of relevant evidence based clinical guidelines/policies relating to speciality.
* To establish effective working relations with all members of the CDC team to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. To take a lead in weekly meeting at speciality/group level.
* To ensure accurate and comprehensive nursing records are maintained using appropriate written and electronic documentation.
* To monitor patient feedback and use to improve and maintain an excellent patient experience.
* To collect data and provide essential information in a timely and accurate manner when requested for e.g., audits or monitoring CQC standards.
* To measure patient acuity and/or dependency to inform evidence-based decision making on staffing and workforce.
* To monitor and record planned vs actual staffing levels and escalate issues when necessary.
* To supervise junior staff, including students, in all aspects of care and within the sphere of competency.
* Ensure that staff have the knowledge, skills, and resources to carry out care delegated to them.
* To be responsible for carrying out risk assessments according to the Clinical Governance / Clinical Risk Strategies.
* To be responsible for ensuring effective mechanisms are in place so that all clinical and non-clinical incidents, including serious incidents are properly reported, investigated and changes made to avoid recurrence.
* To work with the CDC managers, ensuring optimal activity and patient care.
* Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and Scope for Expanded Practices for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors.
