An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated dietitian to join our friendly and pro-active Nutrition and Dietetics Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We are a fully integrated team comprising 14 Dietitians, 3 Dietetic Assistant Practitioners, 2 specialist Nutrition Nurses and 3 Clerical Officers. Our department covers a variety of specialties including nutrition support, diabetes, oncology, home enteral feeding, critical care, gastroenterology, neurology, and stroke.

This rotational post will be based within the acute dietetics team, and would suit a newly qualified Dietitian or a Dietitian wishing to gain more experience. You will be responsible for providing dietetic services to the general medical and surgical wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, as well as regular outpatient clinics and occasional domiciliary visits within Gateshead. Within the band 5 rotations, there will be opportunities to gain experience in critical care, stroke, oncology and gastroenterology, with direct support from two band 6 dietitians and a band 7 dietitian.

As a department we will support your individual personal development via CPD opportunities and clinical supervision as well as enable you to make necessary changes to benefit service delivery. We are actively involved in student training and currently take students from Teesside University for their clinical placements.


Main duties of the job

This is a rotational post and would involve predominately working in the acute settings with some input into outpatient settings.

Within the acute setting, the post holder will be responsible for the development, provision and co-ordination of inpatient dietetic services provided to general medical, surgical and elderly wards. The post holder will also deliver a weekly general outpatient clinic at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The post holder will provide input into a variety of additional service including pulmonary rehab and preceptorship. There may also be opportunities to work with patients in their own homes as well as nursing/ carehomes, including enterally fed patients and working with specialist clinics.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree or post graduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics or awaiting qualification in coming months
* HCPC registration or due to obtain registration
* Teaching qualification


Skills and Knowledge

* Good organisation and prioritisation skills
* IT skills including use of MS office and clinical systems
* Counselling skills/ course


Experience

* Successful completion of NHS dietetic placement
* Experience of enteral feeding, general medical and surgical dietetics
* Experience of working as a band 5


Personal Qualities

* Self-motivated
* Friendly, outgoing, confident
* Adapt easily to new situations
* Able to work independently and develop services
* Flexible to fit with the demands of the job
* BDA member
