Role summary Were hiring a hands-on Management Accountant to own month-end reporting, nominal management and job-costing. You will deliver MD/FD-ready management accounts, lead improvements in the finance function and act as a point of escalation for operational finance matters working closely with project managers and the Financial Controller. Key responsibilities Produce monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc management accounts (P&L, balance sheet checks, cash movements) with concise variance commentary for senior leadership. Lead the month-end close: post adjusting journals (accruals/prepayments), run reconciliations (bank, AR, AP, suspense) and ensure reconciling items are cleared promptly. Maintain sales & purchase ledgers, process supplier invoices/payment runs and handle supplier queries and retentions where applicable. Support and own project/job-level accounting: correct coding, month-to-date costing, margin tracking and proactive support for project managers. Prepare and support VAT returns and payroll journals (or coordinate with payroll provider); ensure statutory deadlines are met. Prepare year-end working papers and liaise with external auditors. Lead process improvements and automation for recurring tasks (bank rules, reconciliation templates, reporting pack automation). Assist with budgeting, forecasting and scenario modelling for projects and company-level plans. Act as a finance business partner to non-finance colleagues; translate finance insight into clear, actionable recommendations. Provide guidance, coaching and direction across the finance function to help raise capability and consistency in transactional and reporting processes. People / leadership skills Demonstrable experience providing coaching, guidance or day-to-day direction within a finance function. Able to delegate effectively, set priorities and maintain robust controls while developing team capability. Comfortable holding regular check-ins, delivering feedback and implementing simple development plans to improve performance and accuracy. Requirements 37 years accounting/finance experience (practice or industry). Qualified or part-qualified (AAT / ATI / ACCA / CIMA / equivalent) Strong month-end experience and reconciliations; comfortable owning end-to-end close tasks. Project/job-costing experience or a demonstrable aptitude to work with site managers on cost control (desirable). Good Excel skills (SUMIFS, PivotTables, lookups) and experience with at least one accounting system (Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, Netsuite etc.). Clear communicator who can present financial information to non-finance stakeholders. Accurate, organised and able to meet deadlines in a busy, project-driven environment. Desirable CIS / construction-sector accounting knowledge. Payroll or pensions experience. Experience with reporting automation (PowerQuery / Power BI). Multi-company / multi-site accounting exposure.
