Job summary

The post is currently contracted to NSFT. The post has gone out for re-tender, so will be managed and delivered by a different provider from the 01st April 2026. The new provider is yet to be confirmed.

We are looking for a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist with relevant experience and training to lead the ongoing development, maintenance and evaluation of the Daycare team, and to contribute to the delivery of specialist 1:1/Group interventions with adult male prisoners at HMP/YOI Norwich prison.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a continually developing service, that offers therapeutic approaches underpinned by DBT, CBT and other psychological approaches. We offer treatment pathways that address, mood stabilisation, anxiety, relationship management, emotional regulation, personality difficulties and trauma. We work with men who may self-harm, have attempted suicide, and/or experience high levels of anxiety or trauma/PTSD. The role includes having an active contribution in reducing self-harm, self destructive and violent behaviour.

Within the team you will be working with a multidisciplinary team inclusive of Mental Health Nurses, Psychiatrists, a Psychotherapist, a Occupational Therapist, Assistant Practitioners, a Assistant Psychologist and prison based professionals.


Main duties of the job

The post is based at HMP Norwich. The role will predominantly involve working with the Mental Health In Reach team providing a specialist assessment and intervention provision and clinical leadership of the psychologically informed service, the Daycare service.

Clinical: Provision of specialist psychology assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions for individuals and groups, referred to the service.

Service Development: Supporting in access to up-to-date psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions, enhancing collaboration, treatment choice, and effectiveness.

Supervision & Line Management: Offer supervision to other professionals, and Assistant Psychologists within the team as appropriate, fostering a culture of learning and excellence within the service.

Training & Development: Supporting and where appropriate implementing and delivering training to embed psychologically informed practices within the multidisciplinary team, supporting a stepped care model of psychological care.

Staff Wellbeing & Resilience: Promote staff wellbeing by leading reflective supervision and post-incident support enhancing resilience and retention in challenging environments.

Service User Engagement: Support in co-produced service development, empowering service users to actively shape psychological services through meaningful collaboration.

Innovation & Research: Contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives.

* Post Graduate Degree (or equivalent) in Clinical/Forensic Psychology, accredited by the BPS
* Ongoing Specialist training/accredited short courses
* Supervisor Training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme or willing to undertake training
* Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC


Desirable

* Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
* Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions

* Experience working as a qualified clinical/forensic psychologist and are able to evidence appropriate knowledge/experience in practice to enable the postholder to clinically supervise a trainee psychologist
* Experience of working with a variety and severity client groups and clinical problems in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems
* Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment
