Overview
A Personal Assistant is required to support an active and sociable eight‑year‑old boy with autism, living in Falmouth.
He loves spending time outdoors and thrives on activities involving water. Swimming, playing rugby and trips to the beach are some of his favourite things to do, and he is a brilliant swimmer.
He is reasonably independent with personal care and can dress himself after swimming, though he may need a little help with his socks. He also enjoys listening to music, going to the cinema, and playing Minecraft and ROBLOX.
He adores animals, is scared of heights, and is a confident, funny, happy and sociable child who enjoys engaging with the world around him.
Responsibilities
* Provide personal assistance and support to the child, facilitating outdoor activities, water-based recreation, and daily routines.
* Accompany the child to swimming, rugby, beach trips, movies, music sessions, and other community experiences.
* Assist with dressing and personal hygiene after swimming or other activities.
* Encourage and support the child’s social engagement, listening to music, and online gaming sessions.
* Help the family balance their daily lives through proactive and responsive support.
Requirements
* Essential: some knowledge or personal experience of working with young people.
* Desirable: a full driving licence.
* Helpful: experience with complex medical needs.
* Available for five hours per week, with flexible scheduling including weekends and school holidays.
Salary
Rate of pay starts at £13.50 per hour with potential increase based on skills and experience.
Additional Information
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
