Job Description

The team you will join is the Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS). We manage important environmental monitoring systems and datasets. You’ll join a multi‑disciplinary team, supporting and learning from colleagues while analysing and improving data that underpins our work.
As a Technical Officer you will help manage these systems and data and provide support to users. You will fulfil a multi‑purpose role, working on our Water Quality systems and data, but will also be expected to support other systems and data as needed.
You will work closely with team members and can expect to be involved in any of the following:
* Set up and manage users
* Support users and resolve issues, especially when moving to our new My Environment application
* Update, improve and maintain datasets
* Respond to internal and external data requests
* Support our system improvement and upgrade projects

Experience / Skills Required
Experience of working with large complex datasets.
Someone who is willing to develop and learn new technical skills and apply them across our monitoring data and systems.
A motivated, organised, friendly, and helpful person with an eye for detail, comfortable in a dispersed team environment.
Someone who is proactive and enjoys solving problems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills: able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others and provide excellent customer service.
Other Desirable Experience / Skills
* Experience of using and managing environmental monitoring data systems
* Experience of using PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online, and R
* A working knowledge of water quality monitoring
Location & Working Arrangements
Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England and be present there. We offer hybrid home/office working but expect some travel for meetings.
Interviews will be held via MS Teams towards the end of December / the beginning of January. We will confirm interview dates for candidates invited.
An apprenticeship is available for the successful candidate.

Important Information for Civil Service Applicants
For applicants who are applying from the Civil Service, note that the Environment Agency is not a part of HM Civil Service and you would not be a Crown Servant in the event of being appointed. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
For applicants who currently work in local government or other bodies listed in the Redundancy Payments (Continuity of Employment in Local Government etc) (Modification) Order 1999, you may be eligible for continuous service for the purpose of calculating any future redundancy payment.
