An established environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Consultant Ecologist to join its growing team based in Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen.
This opportunity would suit an ecology professional with 4+ years’ consultancy experience and a strong technical grounding, looking to progress their career within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Your new role
You will play a key role in delivering a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors, providing specialist ecological expertise while working as part of a passionate and integrated environmental team operating across several UK regions. The role offers significant exposure to stakeholders, regulators and internal technical disciplines to achieve positive environmental oues.
This position provides an excellent platform to further develop technical capability, contribute to high-profile regional and national projects, and build a long-term career within environmental consultancy.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Planning and undertaking targeted habitat and protected species surveys
2. Producing high-quality reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals
3. Designing ecological mitigation measures and advising on implementation
4. Managing small to medium-scale projects, including budgets and programmes, and supporting delivery of larger schemes
5. Liaising with statutory ecological bodies and planning authorities
6. Managing client, partner and sub-consultant relationships
7. Delivering specialist technical input onplex or sensitive projects
8. Preparing fee proposals and supporting tender submissions
9. Attending meetings and providing expert ecological advice to clients and multidisciplinary project teams
What you'll need to succeed
10. A relevant degree qualification (postgraduate qualification desirable)
11. Full or Associate membership of CIEEM
12. Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation, guidance and policy frameworks
13. Technical expertise in habitat and species survey, assessment and mitigation (ideally bats, other UK mammals, great crested newts and/or botany)
14. Experience contributing to HRA, EcIA and Environmental Statement chapters
15. Proven technical report writing and effective project management skills
16. Experience working as an Ecological Clerk of Works or providing on-site ecological advice
17. Confidence in operating in a client-facing capacity within a consultancy environment
18. Working knowledge of GIS systems, including QGIS and QField
19. CSCS card (or equivalent), excellent field skills and strongmunication abilities
20. Flexibility to work unsociable hours or away from home when required
21. A full UK driving licence
22. A willingness to support and mentor junior team members
