About The Role
Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution team is looking for an Assistant Finance Manager in Derby to support our Training and Design & Engineering teams. This hybrid role requires a minimum of three days a week in the office/on site and occasional travel across England and Scotland.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Budget and forecast management, developing accurate cost estimates and tracking expenditures against approved budgets.
* Implement cost‑control measures to optimise spend without compromising quality, constantly seeking opportunities for savings and efficiency improvements.
* Support the preparation of financial reports feeding into project performance, cost trends and overall financial health.
* Manage period‑end reporting cycles and ensure timely delivery of monthly accounts packs to the Engineering Director and heads of engineering.
* Support heads of engineering and training in understanding performance through KPIs on utilisation, overheads and contribution to margin.
* Maintain and update the D&E and training financial rate‑card frameworks to ensure full cost recovery, profitability and risk reduction.
* Present financial results to senior engineering leadership and record intercompany activity.
* Identify, review and manage financial risks, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.
* Conduct financial forecasting and analysis to support decision‑making and project future trends.
* Attend management meetings in Derby and visit sites to integrate with the wider engineering team.
* Apply commercial understanding and experience of NEC option C and E contracts where advantageous.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance department, implementing best practices.
* Perform ad‑hoc financial analysis and reporting as required, addressing inquiries from senior management or stakeholders.
Who We’re Looking For
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to create well‑organised financial analysis from multiple data sources.
* Attention to detail and accuracy.
* Experience with Balfour Beatty systems such as R12, Power BI, IRIS, PBCS is beneficial.
* Excellent communication, numerical and presentation skills, able to deliver reports orally and in writing.
* Strong financial and commercial acumen, proactive problem solver, and ownership of work.
* Confidence to collaborate closely with the Commercial team and build relationships across the business.
