SALT Experienced Manager, Income Franchise
An STS Tax Experienced Manager, State and Local Tax is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications related to their business objectives, recommending alternative courses of action, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations. The role involves marketing, networking, and business development within their area of expertise, recognizing potential changes in tax policy, and applying new policies to tax compliance. Additionally, the STS SALT Experienced Manager will collaborate with Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide SALT expertise to clients.
Job Duties:
1. Research: Identifies complex situations requiring research, outlines issues, analyzes findings, and develops relationships with tax authorities.
2. Tax Compliance: Reviews tax returns, responds to notices, and supports tax examinations.
3. Tax Consulting: Drafts memorandums and opinions, applies tax specialties, manages engagements, and develops marketing strategies.
4. Tax Controversy: Represents clients before tax authorities on contested issues.
5. Tax Software: Utilizes tax research databases and software tools.
6. Provides technical client service on multi-state tax issues, negotiates settlements, and drafts related memoranda.
7. Prepares tax workpapers for income taxes (SFAS109) and understands industry standards related to FAS 109, FIN48, and sales tax.
8. Reviews studies to identify alternative tax strategies and develops new ideas to benefit clients and the firm.
9. Assists in researching tax strategies and suggests marketing approaches for client acquisition.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
1. Supervises daily work of team members, reviews work, and ensures training on tax software.
2. Evaluates performance and assists in professional development.
3. Acts as Career Advisor for senior team members.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Masters in Accounting/Taxation or J.D. preferred.
* Minimum six years of experience in state and local/multistate tax, with supervisory experience.
* Experience with tax provisions, corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships is preferred.
* CPA or relevant certification is preferred.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, is preferred.
* Excellent communication, analytical, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task.
* Proven leadership in managing teams and building client relationships.
* Strong knowledge of tax standards, research tools, and tax implications.
Salary ranges vary based on qualifications and location, with a national range of $94,500 - $189,000.
