Job Description
Pupil Support Assistant - Assist teaching staff in providing a supportive and positive learning experience for children with additional support needs, assisting them with their personal needs and promoting their independence.
Lunchtime Auxiliary - To provide supervision of children remaining on school premises during the lunch period.
Requirements
Pupil Support Assistant
1. Support Learning & Teaching activities.
2. Provide support to children and young people with additional support needs
3. Attend to the personal care and health including the medical needs of pupils with additional support needs in maintaining a safe, healthy and hygienic environment.
4. Support pupils with their mobility needs.
Lunchtime Auxiliary
5. Supervision of pupils on the school premises during the lunchtime interval in particular within the school dining area.
6. General supervision within the time available as required which may include playground supervision.
7. Such other duties as determined by the Head Teacher.
Responsibilities
This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Pupil Support Assistant
8. Experience of working with children & young adults of school age in a caring and supportive environment
9. Educated to ‘standard’ level or equivalent and a demonstrable understanding of English and Arithmetic
10. Ability to observe professional confidentiality and implement sound judgement
11. Ability to use initiative
12. Ability to communicate at all levels
13. Ability to work under guidance and direction of teaching staff
14. Ability to assist young people with special educational needs in personal/medical care.
15. Ability to express a patient and non-confrontational approach when dealing with children and young people who display challenging behaviour.
16. Ability to demonstrate empathy and tolerance and to respond positively to a variety of additional support needs
17. Ability and commitment to undertake further training /development as required
18. Rapport with children/young adults
19. Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the Service
20. Reliable
21. Ability to work as part of a team
22. Effective interpersonal skills and organisational skills
23. Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment
24. Able to assist in and carry out certain lifting tasks associated with the care of dependant young people
Lunchtime Auxiliary
25. Knowledge of and experience with children of school age.
26. Ability to get on well with young children.
27. Ability to communicate effectively with children and staff.
28. Able to engage and interact with children
29. Friendly but firm.
30. Genuinely interested in children.
31. Willing to work as a team and on own initiative.
32. Be available between approximately 12.00pm - 1.30pm each day.
33. Able to work outdoors in all weather.
Applicants should note these are two separate positions, but we are looking for one person to fill both roles.

Pupil Support Assistant: - 4.75 hours per week
Starting Salary: £26,.96 (pro rata)
£13.97 per hour
Lunchtime Auxiliary: 0.75 hours per week
Starting Salary: £25,.52 (pro rata)
£13.48 per hour
