An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection (HSDU) Technician at the County site, with cover also provided at the Royal Stoke site as required.
This is a fully flexible role and shift patterns may change at short notice.
Shift patterns
* Days: 06:00 – 14:00
* Twilight: 14:00 – 22:00
* Nights: 22:00 – 06:00
Weekends are included within working hours and will operate on a rota basis (e.g., Saturday 08:00 – 16:00 or 12:00 – 20:00; Sunday hours TBA or 22:00 – 06:00 as part of night shift rota). The successful candidate will be required to work permanent weekends with a back-fill day off in the week. On-call and bank holiday working on rota are essential.
Pay scale – Band 2 with enhancement pay after 20:00 to 06:00 as per Agenda for Change terms and conditions. Weekends also at an enhanced rate.
Responsibilities
The Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit services include the supply and maintenance of surgical instruments used in surgical and medical procedures. These items are checked in, cleaned, disinfected, packaged, sterilised and delivered back to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
Other responsibilities include delivering a practical, busy, and valuable part of the Health Service for North Midlands, and supporting high standards of patient safety through quality work delivered to tight deadlines.
Qualifications and requirements
Applicants should have a good standard of education with literacy and numeracy skills and basic computer skills, as the position involves daily use of a PC. You will be required to read small letters on instruments and follow written instructions. There will be a short test as part of the interview process and a full unit tour will be given. No prior experience is necessary as in-house training is provided.
