We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to support adults with learning disabilities, working across community and inpatient settings. The role will work under the direct supervision of a qualified psychologist and will involve audit, service evaluation, research, teaching and project work.
This position offers opportunities for clinical experience in both community and assessment settings, and is ideal for those aiming to progress in psychology.
Being able to drive to multiple locations, including home visits, clinical bases and community centres, is essential.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in developing a psychologically based framework of understanding and care for all clients of the service.
* Maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
* Prepare assessment equipment and materials as required.
* Carry out specific administrative duties as required.
* Undertake continued professional development in line with BPS recommendations to develop skills and competencies that support current duties.

Job responsibilities
Work closely with the multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists and nurses to provide high‑quality care.
Participate in audit, service evaluation and research projects as required.
Engage in teaching or project work, contributing to the professional development of the service.
Person Specification
Training and Qualification
* Upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
* Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
* Further postgraduate training in mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
* Demonstrated experience working in an employed or voluntary capacity with people with a learning disability.
Knowledge and skills
* High‑level communication skills (written and verbal) in emotionally charged settings.
* Ability to convey sensitive information to service users, carers and colleagues in a manner that addresses psychological resistance.
* Understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
* Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context.
* Experience with databases and data‑analysis (e.g. Excel, SPSS or Statistica).
* High standard of report writing.
