Farleigh Hospice is a high performing organisation providing specialist palliative and end of life care for people with life limiting illness in the Mid Essex region.Our team at Farleigh has grown and evolved to meet the changings needs of the community we serve, and we are looking for highly motivated Inpatient Ward Manager to join our senior clinical team.


Main duties of the job

You will be a compassionate leader with excellent communication skills. You will be a clinician with experience in palliative care and managing multidisciplinary teams. You will have the ability to problem solve, remain calm under pressure, and manage competing workloads. Farleigh Hospice is as an integral part of the emerging Integrated Care System.

You will report to the Head of Inpatient Care and have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and act at a strategic level. You will continue to practice clinically in your designated field.

Job responsibilities

To lead, manage and support the IPU team to deliver an efficient holistic palliative care service, that can respond flexibly to patient and carer needs and is focused on achieving agreed outcomes for the patient.

To manage and inspire a multidisciplinary workforce from novice to expert, including volunteers,to work as one team.

To actand practiceas a senior clinician in the IPU team and, as required, the wider organisation.

To innovate and streamline IPU team processes and services by embedding quality improvement methodology,including clear outcome measures to produce efficient and highly performing inpatient services.

To build strong relationshipswithin the team and across the Hospice setting

To provide oversight of IPU clinical quality including delivery of the audit program, incident and medicines management, Infection Prevention Control (IPC) and mandatory training.

To provide oversight of delivery of pharmacy services to the hospice

Within this clinical leadership role, it is expected that you will spend 30% of time in a clinical nursing role which will include role modelling best practice and engaging with patients and their families


Person Specification


Experience

* Demonstrable experience and knowledge in palliative care or related discipline e.g. frailty, cancer, haematological services etc.
* Extensive post qualification experience, with 3 years at a senior clinical level
* Currently practicing in your respective clinical field with clear evidence of patient facing contacts at an advanced specialist level
* Proven experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team
* A track record of delivering excellent services that meet diverse user needs
* Experience of successfully leading change, developing flexible approaches and introducing innovative ideas to achieve outcomes for patients
* Experience of managing budgets effectively and delivering efficiencies
* Experience of collaborative working, internally and externally to achieve results
* Experience of developing and delivering strategic and operational plans
* Experience of working with end of life or long-term conditions
* Management experience of providing a commissioned service
* Experience of public speaking and presenting to diverse groups at a local, regional or national level
* Development of or engagement with patient user groups


Qualifications

* Trained as a Registered Nurse
* Registered and in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
* Recognised management, leadership or quality improvement qualification or demonstrable experience
* First degree in palliative care or related discipline

* Ability to apply quality improvement methodology and outcome measures to demonstrate and improve care to patients
* Ability to work under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines
* Ability to prioritise and manage own and others time and workload effectively
* Track record in achieving results through effective project management skills
