Role Overview
The Trainee Team Leader will supervise and coordinate daily primary processing operations, ensuring:
* Production targets are met
* High food safety and hygiene standards
* Compliance with animal welfare regulations
* A strong health & safety culture
You will lead a team of operatives while working closely with technical, planning, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, supervise, and support primary processing operatives
* Allocate tasks and ensure team members understand responsibilities
* Monitor performance and provide coaching or guidance
* Maintain discipline and ensure company policies are followed
* Production Management – Ensure daily production targets are achieved safely and efficiently
* Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or processes to improve productivity
* Coordinate with other departments such as lairage, packing, and quality control
Health & Safety
* Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures
* Conduct safety checks and report hazards or incidents
* Ensure correct use of PPE
* Promote a safe working environment
Food Safety & Hygiene
* Maintain compliance with food safety regulations and hygiene standards
* Monitor sanitation of equipment and work areas
* Follow HACCP and company food safety procedures
Training & Development
* Train new employees in operational procedures, safety, and hygiene
* Mentor team members to improve skills and performance
* Support management in staff development and evaluations
Reporting
* Maintain accurate production records and reports
* Report operational issues, equipment problems, or staffing concerns
* Ensure compliance documentation is completed correctly

* Has team leadership or supervisory experience in production/manufacturing
* Understands food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
* Is organised, proactive, and a strong communicator
* Can manage people effectively in a fast-paced environment
