Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Quality Engineer to join our team in Barnstaple. In this key role, you will work alongside an established team and be responsible for implementing and maintaining QA systems, ensuring effective deployment of quality plans, procedures, and controls. The successful candidate will identify and resolve quality issues, lead continuous improvement initiatives within cross‑functional teams, and act with a high degree of autonomy as a driver of positive change across the business. We’re looking for someone with clear ambition and capability to develop into a Quality Manager role within 2–3 years, supported by mentoring, leadership exposure, and ownership of key quality initiatives.
Your responsibilities
* Manage all aspects of IATF 16949 / ISO 9001, plan and perform internal audits of the quality systems as related to documented procedures, work instructions and quality systems.
* Maintain the QMS to IATF16949 and ISO 9001:2015 standards; ensure the proper implementation of all quality plans and procedures; identify and report deviations with thorough CAPA completion.
* PPAP Submission Management.
* Represent the company by interfacing with customers, assisting with internal and external audits, and managing customer concerns.
* Ensure that project and/or process control documentation is compliant with requirements and/or contract; give guidance and direction on orders.
* Promote continuous improvement by collecting, interpreting, analysing and summarising data and making recommendations through structured problem‑solving techniques.
* Lead programmes to assess quality performance (or cost‑of‑quality) using statistical and analytical methods.
* Apply continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing principles and techniques to critical areas of production, leading kaizen events and advising cross‑functional team members.
* Give guidance, coaching and training to teams and customers on relevant quality matters.
Who we are looking for
* Previous experience as a Quality Engineer within high volume manufacturing.
* Qualified as internal auditor to ISO 9001.
* Strong working knowledge and experience of using problem solving techniques i.e. 8D, A3, Ishikawa, 5 Whys.
* Ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively at all levels.
* Ability to influence stakeholders and cross functional teams to achieve key business objectives and deliver process improvements.
* Confident interacting with cloud‑based services.
Ideally, you will also have
* Knowledge of IATF core tools.
* VDA Auditor.
* Six Sigma Green Belt qualification.
