Job Summary

There never has been a more exciting time to join us; University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is now part of the Bristol NHS Group, aiming to deliver exceptional local services for local people and specialist services across the South West. The UHBW Department of General Anaesthesia sits within the Division of Surgery; however the wider anaesthesia service bridges four clinical divisions of UHBW: Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Weston Division, Specialized Services (cardiac anaesthesia) and Women’s and Children’s (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia). The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking consultants in general anaesthesia to join the team based at Weston General Hospital. The post will be offered at 10 PAs. The successful applicant will join the team in supporting a busy and high quality service providing general anaesthesia in a small hospital, with the support of, and close work with, the wider department across all UHBW sites.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Weston General Hospital and will support the provision of general anaesthesia services for a variety of specialties, including upper and lower GI surgery, trauma & orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, preoperative assessment and acute pain. There will be the opportunity to work across the UHBW sites; however applicants should expect the majority of their work to focus on Weston. In addition to daytime sessions, the successful applicant will participate in the weekend on‑call rota (currently approximately 1:8) and evening sessions (currently approximately 1:8) covering emergency operations until 20:00, plus overnight on call at Weston. The Department of Anaesthesia supports the pre‑operative assessment service and acute pain service, as such the appointee will contribute to this area.
