Job Role:
As Accounts and Payroll Manager, you will oversee day-to-day accounting operations and take ownership of the full payroll cycle. This includes managing accounts payable/receivable, month- and year-end close, statutory submissions, and ensuring compliance with accounting and payroll legislation. You will also be responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees, maintaining holiday/absence records, and supporting HR and management with payroll-related matters as well as working closely with the Head of Financial Operations.
The successful candidate will need to be office-based, 5 days per week.
Salary is £40,000 - £47,000 per year
Job Description:
Management of accounts receivable and accounts payable performing accounting closeout procedures on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis
Submission of partial exemption of the quarterly VAT returns
Assess accounting systems, develop, and implement policies and procedures, and make recommendations for improvements.
Experience of preparing statutory accounts in compliance with FRS102
Computing and preparing Corporation Tax returns.
Familiarising with the online banking platform system and authorising payment runs
Keeping up to date information on contract renewals and documentations
Interpret, inform and effectively communicate financial data and implications of business decisions to non-financial managers
Work closely with other SMT members and the board to formulate, implement and monitor strategic plans, including business expansion and succession planning
Ensure proper documentation and compliance with HMRC, EU, UK local regulations and tax legislation
Month-end close activities, including manual journal entries and maintaining balance sheet accounts.
Prepare monthly accruals, prepayments and accounting entries.
Provide monthly management accounts report to the Governing Board and finance committee
Provide expert compliance, tax and management accountancy advice
Providing accounting and payroll reports and other documents needed by the company's external auditors and work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end
Year end closings and various other accounts duties
Collaboratively working with the finance department ensuring accurate data is provided
Ensure accuracy throughout the accounts records
Prepare and process the end-to-end monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain up-to-date holiday and absence records; handle joiner/leaver calculations.
Ensure statutory compliance (tax codes, pensions, payslips, year-end documents) and resolve employee queries.
Produce payroll journals and monthly reports; maintain clear records and approvals.
Contribute to payroll system upgrades, configuration, user testing, and optimisation to enhance process accuracy and efficiency
Partner with HR and managers to improve processes and handle queries.
Any other payroll duties as required
Skills Required:
Knowledge of different accounting best practices, laws, standards, regulations and corporate finance principles
Experience of using different accounting software including Sage 50 professional
Strong working knowledge of Corporation Tax; forecasting, scenario modelling, strategic analysis.
Advanced Excel; excellent data analysis and data management.

Qualifications:
Qualified in ACCA or CIMA or other relevant financial/accounting qualification
Minimum 2 years' managerial experience
Proven experience managing payroll independently
Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, statutory compliance, and best practices.
