and main responsibilities
The Post holder could expect to cover the following duties:
1. Management of inpatients on the 43-bed Stroke Unit at RBH including Hyper Acute Stroke patients
2. Attend and participate in TIA and Stroke outpatient clinics and the Neurovascular SDEC once it is established.
3. Participate in the Stroke Ambulatory service.
4. Support to Early Supported Discharge service.
5. Participate in the weekend HASU rota at 1 in 8 frequency
6. Clinical administration, included in the sessional time allocation expected to be approx.1 DCC per week
7. Other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service
8. Cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
9. Support in-patient care in conjunction with departmental colleagues.
10. Teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of junior medical & nursing staff, General Practitioners, and other clinical professions.
11. Take part in department, regional and national audits.
12. Management and development of the service using Quality Improvement Methodology.
13. Domiciliary visits where agreed appropriate
14. Pursue research and to act as Principle Investigator in selected NIHR trials.

Person specification
Experience
Essential criteria
15. •Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to gain UK. CCT in General & Geriatric Medicine or Neurology or Acute Medicine with subspecialty training in Stroke Medicine
16. •Appropriate experience in Stroke Medicine including Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy pathways.
17. •Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Desirable criteria
18. •Evidence to demonstrate development, delivery, and management of a quality stroke service.
19. •Experience of supervising SpRs/specialist trainees.
Skills
Essential criteria
20. •Wide knowledge, experience, and a high level of competence in stroke medicine.
21. •Knowledge of good medical practice and the General Medical Council requirements.
22. •Demonstrates a sound knowledge of clinical governance practice.
Desirable criteria
23. •Computer/IT Research skills.
24. •Publications in peer review journals.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
25. •Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
26. •Hold a license to practise with the General Medical Council
27. •Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine or General or Acute Medicine or Neurology and/or Stroke Medicine via; - CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR or - European Community Rights (Within 6 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent)
