About The Role The Group Strategy, Innovation and Market Analytics (SIMA) team is dedicated to answering high-level strategic questions for National Grid and collaborating with external stakeholders to address broader industry challenges. We combine cutting-edge market intelligence, deep energy sector expertise, and sophisticated modelling tools to provide insights that drive informed commercial and strategic decisions. What’s in Store for You: We are looking for a motivated Junior Analyst to join our dynamic Strategy and Regulation Team! In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting National Grid Ventures (NGV) by providing analysis on Interconnectors and Offshore Hybrid Assets. You’ll be empowered to enhance and automate cost-benefit analysis (CBA) reporting, build innovative tools, and create compelling visualisations that extract valuable insights from data. What You'll Do Enhance and automate CBA reporting in line with ENTSOE and Ofgem methodologies to support NGV’s decision-making for new projects. Build on existing tools to automate comprehensive CBA assessments using your Python skills. Improve end-to-end processes, including database interaction, data processing, and reporting in various formats. Create engaging visualisations to communicate results and insights effectively. Ensure version control of existing and new Python scripts. About You A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably in a STEM field. A self-motivated attitude and a keen interest in the energy sector and decarbonisation challenges. Experience coding in Python and a strong understanding of energy markets, particularly in the GB and EU power sectors. Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to translate model outputs into actionable insights. A willingness to learn and use databases (e.g., SnowFlake), SQL, Power BI, and GitHub. Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit. We are seeking candidates with limited work experience, potentially fresh out of university, who are eager to kickstart a quantitative career in the energy industry. What You'll Get Competitive Salary: circa £39,000 – £43,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience).
