This is a fixed term position for 12 months due to the needs of the service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, friendly, hardworking and experienced healthcare support worker to join the multi-disciplinary team within the Sexual Health Department.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well- motivated individual who has excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.

This is a busy post set in Sexual Health, which includes the Pregnancy Advisory Service (abortion care). Areas of work include the Sexual Health Clinic in Singleton Hospital, Neath Port Talbot Hospital, and satellite venues throughout Swansea Bay and Neath Port Talbot.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Level 3) has greater autonomy than a Healthcare Assistant and undertakes a wider range of care duties in line with policies and procedures. They work independently on delegated tasks with appropriate supervision from a registered or assistant practitioner.

They contribute to assessments and support the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care plans. The role includes supervising staff and promoting high standards of care.
Applicants should have healthcare experience, knowledge of the fundamentals of care, basic physiology, and safeguarding principles. Venepuncture skills are desirable but not essential.

Discretion, confidentiality, compassion, and a caring nature are essential for this role.

The role involves travel between clinics in Neath Port Talbot and Swansea and working flexibly with team members across Swansea Bay University Health Board in delivering Sexual Health Services.

The post holder reports directly to the Lead Nurse and works closely with clinical colleagues.

Essential criteria

1. Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses.
2. Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
3. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
4. Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care.

7. Good communication skills – verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.

11. Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own and others workload efficiently.
12. Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, including lifting, assisting with mobility, and performing other manual tasks.

13. Ability to use technology to undertake the role, for example Microsoft Office, virtual platforms such TEAMS.
14. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
15. Ability to work a range of shift patterns.
