The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd., a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the delivery of fusion energy through the design and construction of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant. UKIFS is setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning the STEP prototype.
Fusion energy is crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, with commercial viability expected by mid-century. UKIFS aims to have a prototype fusion plant operational around 2040, leading the UK's fusion strategy and collaborating with industrial partners to develop a global sector valued at approximately £7tn annually. The salary for this role is £48,376. Onsite working is expected for three days a week, with support for flexible working requests.
Employees can be based at either West Burton, Nottinghamshire or Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires completing an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check, including DBS checks and possibly open-source data searches.

The Role
As our Benefits and Impact Specialist, you will develop and deliver benefits, monitoring, and evaluation activities for STEP. You will help build a strong evidence base to demonstrate STEP's value and impact, supporting the UK fusion strategy. You will join the Business Strategy team to generate evidence and insights, build databases, and communicate programme impact. You will lead benefit identification and management activities, support data collation, develop evaluation plans, and contribute to internal and external evaluations. You will engage with all aspects of the STEP programme and support interface with government assurance processes. You will assist in developing business cases by producing evidence documents and peer-reviewing contributions.
Key Accountabilities:
Provide the Evidence-Base for Policy and Decision Making
* Design, deliver, and manage research projects, both in-house and commissioned.
* Conduct qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research, including data analysis and evaluation.
* Build and manage internal data collection, research, monitoring, and evaluation activities to support strategic priorities.
* Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to develop organizational skills.
Deliver Impactful Products
* Produce reports and briefings that communicate evidence clearly.
* Respond to ad-hoc evidence requests related to policy and thematic areas.
* Contribute to business case development with supporting evidence.
* Peer review reports, presentations, and academic papers; facilitate benefit insights collection across UKIFS.
Build a Strong Network
* Establish relationships across STEP, UKAEA, and relevant government teams for coordination.
* Interface with: STEP teams, government departments, and UKAEA.
* Support the Benefits, Monitoring, and Evaluation Lead in engagement and assurance processes.
* Contribute to project reporting, dashboards, and risk management.
