Role Summary
Role: Electrical Estimator (LV)
Reporting to: Managing Director (and Project Leads as required)
Location: Merthyr Tydfil HQ with hybrid flexibility; surveys across South Wales/M4 as required
Contract: Full‑time, permanent
Salary: Negotiable (guidance £45,000–£60,000 DOE) + package
Purpose: Own the LV estimating function—from take‑off to submission—producing accurate, timely and commercially astute tenders that win the right work at the right margin. This is not a civils or HV estimating post; it is focused on LV building services/industrial power and EV infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Scope review & clarifications: read ITTs, drawings (GA/schematics), specifications and ERs; raise RFIs; de‑risk scope.
* Quantity take‑off: cable/containment, small power & lighting, distribution boards (DB schedules), accessories, devices, earthing/bonding.
* Build‑ups & pricing: labour norms, materials, plant, prelims and subcontract packages; value‑engineer alternatives.
* Supplier/subcontract pricing: issue take‑off packs; analyse returns; negotiate; maintain price libraries.
* Bid production: programme assumptions, exclusions, risk registers, prelims, method notes; complete client forms/portals.
* Handover: produce estimator‑to‑PM handover packs; attend internal kick‑offs; support VE and variations.
* Pipeline discipline: track opportunities, hit‑rate and reasons‑why; improve estimating data and benchmarks.
* Compliance: ensure proposals align with BS 7671:2018+A3:2022 and the IET Code of Practice for EV Charging Equipment Installation (latest ed.).
Person Specification
Essential
* Minimum 5 years' proven LV electrical estimating (industrial/commercial).
* Strong knowledge of BS 7671 and practical LV installation methods.
* EV experience (pricing AC/DC chargers, feeder pillars, protection, civils interfaces) or clear motivation to develop.
* High proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel—advanced functions & lookups; Word; Outlook; Teams/SharePoint).
* Competent with estimating/take‑off tools (e.g., Trimble/Amtech Estimation, ConQuest, Bluebeam Revu or similar).
* Clear written English and client‑facing communication; accurate numeracy and commercial awareness.
* Full UK driving licence; willing to attend site surveys.
Desirable
* Exposure to EV depot/workplace/retail charging projects; familiarity with OZEV mechanisms.
* Understanding of discrimination/selectivity, short‑circuit calculations and earthing on LV systems.
* Experience pricing testing & commissioning allowances and O&M deliverables.
