If the answer is yes, then we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join our encouraging and welcoming team of dedicated military and civilian healthcare professionals and administrative staff working within Redford Medical Centre, Edinburgh.
The vacant post is a part time position working 32 hours per week. The working hours will be: Monday Thursday 08:00-16:30 (30 minutes lunch break) or 08:00-17:00 (60 minutes lunch break).
The post holder will work as part of a small team, to manage the day to day running of the Medical Centre dispensary at Redford Medical Centre. Working across the Scotland and Northern Ireland (SNI) Region may also be a requirement. Redford MC operate as a dispensing doctor practice; Pharmacy Technicians work unsupervised within the dispensary. The post holder is responsible for delivering a consistently high-quality pharmacy service and assists in the delivery of an effective medicines management service to entitled personnel within the multi-disciplinary medical centres and on behalf of the Senior Medical Officer (SMO). The post holder will have knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training at National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) 3 level, supervising a technical area within the dispensary and knowledge of medicines management, including relevant legislation and policies acquired through NVQ 3 training.
Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:
1. Provision of a safe and accurate dispensing service to patients under the care of the SMO and DPHC.
2. Communicate professionally with medical and non-medical prescribers regarding any prescription anomalies, ambiguities, or supply issues.
3. Communicate information as needed to patients, parents and carers regarding prescribed medicines, further supplies, and prescription payments.
4. Housekeeping of the dispensary including stock checks, stock rotation and monitoring of time expiry drugs to minimise wastage as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
5. Provide advice to medical centre staff on pharmacy, prescribing and medicines management issues within scope of own competence.
6. To deal with complaints in line with local and Ministry of Defence (MOD) policy.
7. To maintain a high standard of confidentiality at all times.
