Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a systems engineer within the Maritime Data Assessment Centre (MDAC), part of Defence Intelligence, supporting key MOD operational outputs. You will be part of a rostered shift team delivering routine administration, maintenance and fault resolution of a bespoke integrated data processing system. The role requires shift work, prior IT administration and engineering experience, and a passion for problem‑solving.

Responsibilities

* Provide routine administration, maintenance and fault resolution of the bespoke integrated data processing system.
* Work as part of one of five 24‑hour teams covering a 365‑day operation.
* Conduct regular physical checks on the Integrated Common Processor (ICP) data processing storage units and distribution networks to ensure appropriate temperatures, frequencies and alarm/power connections.
* Investigate variations to normal system operations and undertake initial corrective procedures within delegation.
* Respond to calls related to the ICP and provide regular progress updates to senior engineering staff.
* Perform routine maintenance checks on the ICP system and support systems in line with manufacturer guidance and policy.
* Report any issues that may interrupt outputs to the management chain promptly.
* Monitor, service and maintain cooling systems associated with the ICP operation and liaise with in‑house Facility staff.
* Carry out manual handling tasks, standing, stooping, bending, ladder, scaffolding and confined space work.
* Complete mandatory functional and non‑functional training and other administration tasks as required.
* Undertake any other duties associated with the grade, as designated by Engineering Management or the Team Leader.


Qualifications & Experience

* Essential: Level 3 NVQ Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
* Desirable: Registration with a professional engineering institute.
* Ability to make decisions on repair and serviceability of equipment within delegated authority.
* Knowledge of IT systems and report writing.
* Ability to work under remote supervision.
* Good communication skills.
* Team player.
* Physically able to undertake some lifting.
* Registered as a sole UK national (reserved position) – no dual nationality.


Assessment & Selection Process

The selection process will assess evidence of the following behaviours: Making Effective Decisions, Managing a Quality Service, Working Together (through CV, personal statement, and structured interviews). A STAR format is strongly advised for the personal statement. Candidates may be asked to complete additional assessment for Communicating and Influencing during the interview stage.


Benefits & Compensation

* Salary: £26,390 per annum.
* Ministry of Defence contribution of £7,645 towards Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
* Leave entitlement – 25‑day annual leave allowance per year, increasing by 1 day per year up to a maximum of 30 days. 8 statutory Bank Holidays and 1 privilege day per year.

* No relocation allowance. Travel to interviews is not reimbursed.

* Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.


Security & Vetting Requirements

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check and meet MOD security requirements before appointment. The level of security needed is Developed Vetting. People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard checks.
