Job Title and Contract

22 Month Fixed Term Contract – Psychologist – Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (FCAMHS).

Background

The FCAMHS community team is based in Peterborough, with a second base in Cambridge. It covers the East of England region, including Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. The service works in partnership with health, social care, education and youth justice agencies to provide integrated care for children and young people with high risk or concerning behaviours and mental health or neurodevelopmental concerns.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop local engagement with a large‑scale RCT Mentalisation‑Based Therapy (MBT) trial.
* Support recruitment of participants for the RCT.
* Train in and deliver MBT as part of the RCT therapies delivery team.
* Monitor, document and adhere to the research trial protocol, supporting others to do so.
* Provide specialist psychological assessments of referred children, integrating psychometric tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, structured observations and semi‑structured interviews with children, families and other professionals.
* Produce bio‑psycho‑social formulations, consultation and advice based on complex psychological data and the child’s risks.
* Exercise autonomous clinical responsibility for implementing psychological interventions with children, families and carers, adjusting, interpreting and reformulating models as appropriate based on feedback and monitoring.
* Complete specialist structured risk assessments using forensic knowledge.
* Supervise, where appropriate, delivery of complex psychological interventions as part of multidisciplinary care planning.
* Communicate highly confidential and personal information from assessment, formulation, therapy and interventions, in a skilled and sensitive manner, judging what, how, when and to whom information should be reported for the child’s best interests.

Additional Duties

Provide service development projects and research as agreed with the Psychological Therapies Lead and Senior Leadership Team. Offer Trainee Psychologist placements.

Requirements

Must be able to travel independently around the county, meeting strict time deadlines. A full UK driving licence is required, and the candidate must have access to a vehicle. Public transport may not be used for this role.

Equal Opportunity Statement

As an equal opportunities employer, we encourage applications from all sectors of the community, particularly from under‑represented groups including people with long‑term conditions and members of our ethnic minority and LGBTQ+ communities.
