Location: Surlingham, Norwich NR14 7DQ
Salary: FTE GBP 24,027 - GBP 24,404 per annum; Pro-rata GBP 9,022 - GBP 9,329 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday 7:00 - 10:00 (flexible hours considered)
The Primary School and Nursery are members of the Education Trust, an expanding multi-academy trust with 13 primary and 9 secondary schools.
The Role
The school caretaker reports to the headteacher and office manager, responsible for security management of both sites, maintaining buildings and outdoor areas, ensuring furniture, fittings, and outdoor play equipment are safe and compliant with HSE standards, and maintaining the school's appearance inside and outside.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a key holder, managing minor security issues and contractor access during holidays.
* Prepare the school site, rooms, and work areas, including operation of heating and lighting.
* Conduct monthly Legionella testing (training provided).
* Perform weekly flushing testing.
* Inspect and record monthly play equipment condition.
* Weekly fire alarm testing at both sites.
* Handle porterage duties, including setting up furniture and equipment for activities.
* Undertake basic DIY tasks as a competent handyman.
* Report major repairs to the Office Manager.
* Interact courteously with staff, parents, pupils, and visitors.
* Meet and oversee contractors and deliveries during holidays.
* Maintain health and safety records, understand COSHH regulations, and participate in relevant training.
* Attend meetings with the Schools Property Maintenance Adviser and assist in planning maintenance works.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential competencies include clear and tactful communication, positive relationship-building, teamwork, responsibility, prioritization, and meeting deadlines.
Professional Competencies
* Understanding and compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
* Technical proficiency related to maintenance tasks.
* Ability to work independently and reliably.
Qualifications and experience required include a good level of literacy and numeracy, and a background in construction or maintenance.
