About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Director to join our Regional team to work on a major project in Inverness .
The Project Director will hold overall accountability for the successful delivery of the project including initiation, planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and handover/closeout. They will provide management, leadership and inspires a multi-disciplinary team to achieve a common goal.
What you'll be doing
1. Report on project/portfolio performance and benefits realisation
2. Establish effective relationships with stakeholders
3. Assess the suitability of the project/portfolio and ensure delivery aligns with the business objectives
4. Supervise all project/portfolio team & CoPs involved to provide feedback and resolve complex problems
5. Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation
6. Carry out periodic Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety initiatives
7. Manage the structure, focus and discipline of the project/portfolio team
8. Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and performance management
9. Promote and facilitate utilisation of the principles of continuous improvement across the team
10. Lead risk/opportunity reviews and recommend/implement/approve/reject changes
11. Ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
12. Work with the customer to understand their expectations in relation to quality and ensure that these are met within the project
13. Track project performance against baselines, advocating Short Interval Control processes to identify deviations early and hold projects accountable
14. Ownership of budget, cost control and cost recovery, setting project/portfolio targets accordingly
15. Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are utilised efficiently
16. Advocate consistency and reliability of digital data to support successful project delivery data driven decisions.

17. Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
18. Strong understanding of the standard forms of contracts
19. Business and customer awareness
20. Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
21. Ability to create and implement strategy
22. Focus on commercial management of contracts and budgets
23. Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
24. Be flexible and agile to change as the role develops
25. Understand the need to present data/reports etc. in a manner that is simple and easy/effective for our people to interpret and utilise
