OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
The post of head of welfare is a senior position which makes up part of the senior management team of CSVPA. The purpose of the role is to lead and manage the
provision of all aspects of student welfare and pastoral care as well as playing a crucial role in whole school strategy and development. The post holder will have the ability to manage welfare and pastoral care teams very effectively and possess excellent communication and administrative skills.
REPORTS TO
You will be directly responsible to the Rector. You will work within the framework set by and under the general direction of the Rector.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
To ensure that the College complies with National Minimum Boarding Standards (NMBS) across all aspects of the College’s welfare provision.
To attend senior management or cross-college meetings as required.
To liaise and communicate with parents, agents and external authorities as appropriate.
Staff Management:
To lead and manage the Healthcare team; to encourage, support and challenge them to ensure that the welfare and pastoral needs of students are met. To
ensure the effective dissemination of information to Heads of House and the provision of effective and appropriate healthcare advice and support to
students.
To lead and manage the boarding support to ensure the successful implementation of procedures in the boarding houses and proactively evaluate
and improve standards of welfare support for students.
To undertake quality assurance of all pastoral reports, to ensure effective communication with agents and parents through professional and targeted
standards.
To chair pastoral and welfare meetings.
To constantly monitor staff performance and to manage annual staff appraisals.
To be mindful of the need to ensure all College students receive a high level of care and discipline at all times.
To manage and where required participate in, the investigation of reported cases of misbehaviour and breaches of college rules by students.
To assist with interviewing applicants for relevant posts and to advise on the appointment of staff.
To meet with all new pastoral staff and oversee their induction.
To assist the Senior Management in identifying INSET needs within college.
Administration
To oversee the creation and maintenance of all welfare policies and pastoral documents.
To be familiar with and work in accordance with the latest versions of statutory regulation.
To participate in the student induction process including the arrivals weekends.
To investigate complaints and concerns from students and report findings of all investigations to appropriate staff and record the outcome accurately and
comprehensively.
Health & safety
To comply with all health and safety procedures as required by the college.
