The Role
We are seeking a Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant to deliver pre‑planning water environment consultancy services across residential, renewable energy, and utilities projects. You will play a key role in projects requiring Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Impact Assessments, Sustainable Drainage Strategies, and hydrological studies.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce high‑quality reports including flood risk and drainage assessments
* Ensure deliverables meet policy requirements and best practice standards
* Undertake site visits to collect flood risk and drainage data
* Liaise with stakeholders including EA, SEPA, LLFAs, IDBs, and sewerage undertakers
* Provide consultancy advice at design meetings
* Collaborate with colleagues across hydrology, ecology, and construction disciplines
* Support bids and proposals
Candidate Profile
* Degree in civil engineering, environmental science, or related discipline
* Strong experience in drainage or surface water management
* Background in flood risk management within consultancy, public sector, or regulatory bodies
* Strong knowledge of legislation, planning policy, and design standards relating to flood risk and drainage
* Solid understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
* Experience delivering and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for planning applications
* Skilled in stakeholder engagement and technical/non‑technical report writing
* Proficiency with modelling/design software (e.g., InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, AutoCAD)
* Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
* Full UK driving licence
