ABOUT THE EXTERNSHIP
VEG's Veterinary Technician Student Externship Program provides vet tech students with hands-on experience in emergency medicine, working alongside credentialed emergency veterinary technicians. Students will develop skills such as obtaining patient vitals, processing laboratory samples, caring for hospitalized patients, triaging cases, and collaborating in a fast-paced environment. If you're passionate about emergency medicine, we'd love to have you!
Note: This is an unpaid externship. Rabies vaccinations are required unless your school's policy allows handling unvaccinated pets without vaccination.
* Flexibility: Choose the length of your externship to meet your school's requirements
* Location: Choose where you'd like to extern (depending on hospital capacity)
* Mentorship: Supported by a credentialed veterinary technician
* Focus: Fully immersed in emergency medicine
REQUIREMENTS
* Currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or actively seeking accreditation. Must require externship hours/skills. Not for veterinary or veterinary assistant students.
* Externship must begin within 6 months of application.
* Rabies vaccination required unless your school's policy allows handling unvaccinated animals without vaccination.
