Overview
We’re seeking a Strategy Advisor to help steer Kainé through its next phase of growth, shaping our strategic direction as we scale our impact on community cohesion across Leicester.
What difference will you make? Your expertise will help us make strategic, informed decisions about how to grow sustainably. By strengthening our income-generating activities, we can build financial resilience, reduce dependency on grants, and fund more staff and programmes. You’ll play a key role in helping us unlock the full potential of our arts and education work – making it more accessible, scalable, and impactful. Your input could shape not just how we work, but how many lives we touch.
Key Responsibilities
You will contribute to
* Make informed decisions about where to focus time, energy and resources
* Balance ambition with safeguarding, quality and sustainability
* Stay accountable to our mission and the communities we serve
* Translate vision into practical, measurable action
By providing leadership through the Strategy Committee, you’ll help create the conditions for long-term stability, strong partnerships and meaningful impact for tens of thousands of Leicester residents.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who has experience developing or overseeing organisational strategy, business planning or managing change. This might come from the charity sector, public sector or private sector. You should be comfortable working with complex information, identifying patterns and helping groups make sense of competing priorities. Experience of working with boards, committees or senior leadership teams is welcome, but not essential.
We value people who can bring different perspectives together, communicate clearly and lead through collaboration rather than authority. A genuine commitment to Kainé’s mission and an interest in community cohesion in Leicester is essential.
Lived experience of Leicester’s communities, or an understanding of working in super-diverse cities, would be a strong asset.
What will you be doing?
Kainé is at a pivotal moment. We currently reach over 13,000 residents each year through arts, education and cultural programmes, and we have ambitious plans to scale our impact significantly over the coming years, including developing the future Kainé Centre. Our Board is made up of trustees with strengths across finance, programmes, community engagement and youth work. As our ambitions grow, we are now looking to strengthen strategic leadership at Board level to ensure our plans remain grounded, achievable and mission-led.
To support our long‑term sustainability and reduce reliance on grants, we are seeking to expand our income‑generating activities – including workshops, education services, events, and performance bookings.
The Strategy Advisor will play a central role in guiding the organisation’s direction. You will chair our Strategy Committee and help turn long‑term vision into clear, actionable priorities. This includes overseeing the development and delivery of our strategic plan, tracking progress against agreed goals and ensuring alignment across programmes, partnerships, funding and operations.
You will work closely with fellow trustees and the senior team, particularly colleagues responsible for operations, finance, programmes and community engagement. Together, you’ll help navigate key strategic questions such as sustainable growth, managing risk, responding to Leicester’s evolving community needs and balancing innovation with organisational capacity.
Your input will include reviewing current services for commercial potential, proposing pricing or delivery models, helping us assess markets, or advising on strategy for launching new offerings. As well as designing staff roles, costings, and financial planning related to this growth.
This is a hands‑on role, suited to someone who enjoys shaping direction, asking the right questions and helping an organisation stay focused while adapting to change. You’ll bring structure to complex challenges and support the Board to make confident, mission‑aligned decisions at moments that matter.
