Production Operative – Metal Manufacturing

An established manufacturing business is seeking a Production Operative to join its Final Processing Department on a permanent basis.
This is a hands-on position within a regulated engineering environment, focused on surface preparation and inspection of precision castings. Full training will be provided, including the opportunity to achieve an internationally recognised qualification.
This opportunity would suit someone with manufacturing or engineering experience who takes pride in quality, works methodically, and is comfortable following structured processes and technical specifications.
The role:
The position covers two core processes within final processing:
1. Preparing castings through a controlled chemical process to ensure components are ready for inspection.
2. Processing castings using dye inspection techniques to identify surface defects and confirm compliance with customer specifications.
3. You will be working to strict standards, processing parts through chemical tanks, controlled rinsing and drying cycles, developer application, and detailed inspection against technical drawings and requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
4. Processing components through chemical tanks within specified time controls
5. Carrying out dye inspection to detect defects and surface cracks
6. Recording and updating production data accurately using PC-based systems
7. Interpreting specifications and drawings to ensure compliance
8. Preparing finished products for packing and despatch
9. Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working area
10. Supporting other departments where required
11. Adhering strictly to company health and safety procedures
Working hours:
Monday to Friday days shifts (39 hours weekly)
What we’re looking for:
12. Experience in a manufacturing, engineering or production environment
13. Previous inspection or quality-related experience advantageous
14. Comfortable using hand tools and workshop equipment
15. Good literacy and numeracy skills
16. Confident using PC-based systems for data entry and production logging
17. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
18. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach
19. Positive, team-oriented attitude
Experience within fabrication, metalworking or manufacturing environments would be beneficial but is not essential.
