The Paediatric Asthma Clinical Nurse Specialist will lead and deliver high-quality, specialist asthma care for children and young people across North West London, working autonomously within the paediatric respiratory multidisciplinary team.

The role involves managing a complex caseload, undertaking advanced clinical assessments, developing personalised management plans, and coordinating care across acute, community, and primary care settings. With a strong focus on reducing health inequalities, the post holder will support children from deprived and underserved communities, aligning practice with NICE guidance, BTS/SIGN asthma guidelines, NHS England standards, and NWL ICS priorities.

The post holder will play a key role in service development and population health initiatives, including Core20PLUS5 for children and young people, helping to reduce avoidable exacerbations and unplanned hospital attendances.

The role also includes contributing to audits, using service data to drive improvement, and ensuring asthma pathways are accessible, equitable, and responsive to local need.

The Paediatric Asthma Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide expert, evidence-based care to children and young people with asthma, undertaking holistic assessments, managing a specialist caseload, and running nurse-led clinics across acute, community, and primary care settings.

The role involves developing personalised asthma management plans, supporting self-management education, and ensuring safe prescribing and medication management.

The post holder will work collaboratively with families, GPs, schools, and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, address safeguarding concerns, and promote consistent best practice. They will contribute to service development through quality improvement, audit, data analysis, and implementation of national and local guidelines.

In addition, the role includes supporting colleagues through teaching, supervision, and leadership, while maintaining personal professional development and clinical competence. Effective, inclusive communication and accurate documentation are essential, alongside active participation in ICS network meetings, Trust initiatives, and multidisciplinary discussions to enhance asthma outcomes across the region.
