Higher Clerical Officer (Legal Section) – NHS Lanarkshire.
Role Overview
To process all access and other requests for patient records and patient information in accordance with legislation under the Access to Health Records Act 1990 and the Data Protection Act 1998.
Location & Working Pattern
This role will be based in Health Records within University Hospital Hairmyres. The working pattern: Day Shift.
Contract Type
Permanent, Part‑Time – 10.5 hours. Salary will be pro‑rated.
Qualifications
* Educated to standard grade/Qualification at SVQ Level 2, ECDL or equivalent plus knowledge of health records gained through 2 years experience.
* Thorough knowledge of Access to Health Records Act 1990 and Data Protection Act 1998 and the processes in place when handling access requests for health records.
* Specialist training in handling highly sensitive and confidential information; confident in dealing with multiple agencies.
* Customer‑care skills; trained to handle distressed patients/relatives, especially relatives of deceased patients.
* Computer literate and proficient keyboard skills.
* Experience in multitasking.
* Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection and handling/moving skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative (working alone).
* Good interpersonal skills including effective communication with patients and staff at all levels.
Additional Requirements
* Previous experience of health records environment.
* Knowledge of filing systems.
* Ability to work in a physically demanding and busy environment.
* Ability to efficiently process and electronically scan paperwork in accordance with set timescales, ensuring high quality work output.
* Ability to provide a patient‑focused reception service.
