Healthcare Assistant – Theatres – Chaucer Hospital, Canterbury
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full time, permanent schedule)
Salary: Up to £26,000.00 per year (dependent on experience, training and qualification)
Overview
The role is within the Theatre department at Chaucer Hospital, a leading provider of independent healthcare. The healthcare assistant will provide essential support to patients throughout their theatre experience, including personal care, nutritional assistance, and collaborative patient monitoring and care.
Duties Of This Role Include
* Assist patients with personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, oral care and mobility.
* Help patients with eating and drinking, and record intake when required.
* Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and their relatives.
* Carry out routine observations – blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation and blood glucose (post‑training).
* Support basic clinical procedures, including wound set‑up, catheter care, pressure area prevention and mobility aids.
* Prepare and maintain clinical areas, ensuring trolleys, beds and equipment are ready for use.
* Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists and administrative teams to support safe, efficient patient care.
Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria
* Previous care or health‑support experience (hospital, care home, community or domiciliary).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
* Ability to follow instructions and raise concerns appropriately.
* Basic literacy, numeracy and IT competence.
* Physically capable of undertaking movement and handling tasks.
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) desirable.
* Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and confidentiality procedures.
