SEN Teaching Assistant - Hemel Hempstead – Education and Training
This role involves working with children aged 2-19, from Nursery to KS2 level of cognitive ability. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 3:45. All education and training will be provided.
We are seeking a graduate or non-graduate with a caring nature and good instincts for Nursery and early years children. The role involves working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures, some requiring personal care. An interest in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy is advantageous but not essential.
The school caters to children with Autism, Complex Social Needs, and varying academic abilities, including those with severe Learning Challenges and physical disabilities.
Your responsibilities include making a positive impact on students’ lives, ensuring their safety, and demonstrating the value of education. You will receive SEN and safeguarding training, including MAPA training.
This role is suitable for aspiring Occupational Therapists or Speech and Language Therapists, providing a foundation to explore areas of interest and develop relevant skills.
Key focus areas include:
1. Physical work combined with pragmatic approaches to maximize each child's academic progress.
2. Introducing therapies and holistic techniques, with progress viewed as success.
3. Supporting students with Pathological Demand Avoidance and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
4. Focusing on Early Years and Non-Verbal students, using holistic engagement techniques.
5. Working with secondary-aged students with levels of learning below their age.
6. Providing positive engagement and acceptance, utilizing different approaches when talking therapy is not effective.
It is essential that candidates are sincere about their objectives and committed to working in the SEN and mental health sector, providing a supportive foundation for vulnerable students who have experienced trauma.
