Autism Support Worker – Leeds | Full-Time or Part-Time | Term-Time Only

Are you compassionate, calm, and driven to make a real difference in the lives of young people with Autism?

A specialist school in Leeds is looking for a committed Autism Support Worker to join their experienced team. This role is ideal for someone who wants to support children with Autism and complex needs—not just in the classroom, but across their whole school experience.

About the Role

As an Autism Support Worker, you'll work alongside teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide tailored, 1:1 and small-group support. You'll help children navigate daily routines, build emotional regulation strategies, and develop practical life skills in a structured and nurturing setting.

You'll play a vital part in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and empowered to achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities

* Supporting children and young people with Autism, sensory processing needs, and communication differences
* Helping pupils manage transitions, routines, and emotional regulation using tools like sensory strategies and visual supports
* Encouraging independence through tasks such as cooking, organising, self-care, or accessing outdoor spaces
* Assisting with creative, sensory, or therapeutic activities designed to promote communication and wellbeing
* Following individualised support and behaviour plans (full training provided)
* Working closely with families, teachers, and the wider support team

What We're Looking For

We welcome a wide range of backgrounds. You might have experience in:

* Supporting someone with Autism or additional needs in your personal life
* Care work, residential support, or youth/community projects
* Educational settings or special schools
* Psychology, social care, or SEN pathways

Key qualities include:

* A calm, patient, and empathetic nature
* Resilience in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment
* Teamwork and strong communication skills
* A genuine passion for inclusion and neurodiversity
* A willingness to learn strategies like PECS, Makaton, or sensory regulation (training is provided)

About the School

This Leeds-based specialist provision supports children with Autism and associated learning or communication needs. The school offers:

* Small class sizes and a high staff-to-pupil ratio
* Sensory spaces, therapy rooms, and safe outdoor environments
* A positive, consistent structure that helps pupils thrive

Hours & Working Pattern

* Location: Leeds
* Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm (term-time only)
* Full-time and part-time available
* No evenings or weekends

If you're someone who understands the value of connection, patience, and consistency—we'd love to hear from you.
