Autism Support Worker – Leeds | Full-Time or Part-Time | Term-Time Only

A specialist school in Leeds is looking for a committed Autism Support Worker to join their experienced team. This role is ideal for someone who wants to support children with Autism and complex needs—not just in the classroom, but across their whole school experience.
About the Role
As an Autism Support Worker, you'll work alongside teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide tailored, 1:1 and small-group support. You'll help children navigate daily routines, build emotional regulation strategies, and develop practical life skills in a structured and nurturing setting.
You'll play a vital part in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and empowered to achieve their goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting children and young people with Autism, sensory processing needs, and communication differences
* Helping pupils manage transitions, routines, and emotional regulation using tools like sensory strategies and visual supports
* Encouraging independence through tasks such as cooking, organising, self-care, or accessing outdoor spaces
* Assisting with creative, sensory, or therapeutic activities designed to promote communication and wellbeing
* Following individualised support and behaviour plans (full training provided)
* Working closely with families, teachers, and the wider support team
What We're Looking For
We welcome a wide range of backgrounds. You might have experience in:
* Supporting someone with Autism or additional needs in your personal life
* Care work, residential support, or youth/community projects
* Educational settings or special schools
* Psychology, social care, or SEN pathways
Key qualities include:
* A calm, patient, and empathetic nature
* Resilience in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment
* Teamwork and strong communication skills
* A genuine passion for inclusion and neurodiversity
* A willingness to learn strategies like PECS, Makaton, or sensory regulation (training is provided)

Hours & Working Pattern
* Location: Leeds
* Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm (term-time only)
* Full-time and part-time available

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do, and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education, you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
