Do you have oncology experience and want to use your skills to support patients with acute problems related to their cancer or their treatment? We have an exciting opportunity within Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for an enthusiastic oncology nurse to join our established and supportive Acute Oncology team on a fixed term basis to provide backfill for a new trainee ACP role. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to expand their knowledge and skills across Oncology. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated individual who would like to join our multidisciplinary team. This is a great opportunity for someone who has an interested in acute oncology to gain experience in the specialty. Hours can be worked over 2 or 3 days. This could also be offered as a secondment opportunity.
You will utilise skills of clinical expertise, leadership, education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff and will provide advice, support and information at the time of diagnosis and throughout the patient pathway. Excellent communication skills in relaying sensitive, complex information to patients, relatives and staff is essential.
Candidates should have experience of working within the field of cancer nursing. Evidence of post-graduate study in Cancer and Acute Oncology is beneficial.
The post will be pivotal in improving the care of oncology patients by developing the trust Acute Oncology (AOS) and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP). The post holder will work alongside the AOS, consultants, the wider multidisciplinary team and ensure cross site liaison.
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the Trust Acute Oncology Service (AOS) to improve and maintain standards of patient care and facilitate a seamless service within a multi-professional framework. The post will provide effective communication to improve the patient journey and experience, reducing length of stay in hospital, averting hospital admissions and smooth transition into supportive palliative care.
