About the Role
We are recruiting a fixed‑term senior advisor for up to two years. The role focuses on regulating the energy sectors—combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries—by providing expert support, developing regulatory strategy, managing research projects and handling incident response.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce the tools needed to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where required.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business‑continuity support during emergency situations.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience of working in or regulating the energy sectors, including various scales of combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work required for the role, gained through practice in the sector.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Strong teamwork skills; evidence of working cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, encouraging diversity issues in the workplace.
* Experience of controlling emissions to air where relevant and applying statutory environmental and technical requirements.
