Application deadline: 2 weeks ago; Be among the first 25 applicants
In January 2022, a major new consortium, Media Cymru (Wave 2 Strength in Places UKRI award), was launched to accelerate innovation in Wales’ screen sector over the next five years. This role offers the opportunity to work with this 22-partner consortium comprising industry, HEI, and public sector entities to enhance capabilities for innovation and growth in the screen sector. It is an excellent chance to influence change in this bilingual, thriving sector and to develop a cohesive, future-oriented skills landscape capable of competing globally.
The position is based at the University of South Wales, Faculty of Business and Creative Industries, Cardiff campus. USW leads the skills work package within the broader Media Cymru project, which involves multiple strands of work. The Faculty has a strong research culture in Screen Skills in Wales and is the largest provider of screen industries education in the region. The Centre for the Study of Media and Culture in Small Nations conducts high-quality research on creative industries in small nations worldwide, producing journal articles, monographs, exhibitions, films, and industry reports.
The Research Fellow in Screen Skills for Innovation will be an experienced researcher with knowledge of the Screen Industries, including animation, games, film, television, post-production, VFX, and virtual production. The role suits someone skilled in establishing positive collaborations beyond academia, designing and conducting both quantitative and qualitative research, and working flexibly within a multi-partner consortium and a small leadership team. The candidate should be capable of delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines.
As the project progresses, the focus will shift to evaluating training interventions and assessing their impact within an existing framework, alongside supporting the archiving of project activities.
This is a 0.8 FTE fixed-term position until 31 December 2026.
