Job Overview

We are offering a 12‑month fellowship in Endoscopy at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). The role begins on Tuesday 8th September 2026 and may be full‑time or less than full‑time.

Responsibilities

* Participate in a 12‑month training programme designed to increase endoscopy experience while maintaining eligibility for other speciality training.
* Attend two dedicated Endoscopy training lists per week, with one or two sessions allocated each week for research, further ad‑hoc training, diagnostic skill development, or endoscopic resection.
* Complete five sessions per week of speciality training, which include outpatient clinics, ward, and speciality inpatient outreach; these sessions are managed by the employing trust and serve as back‑fill for local specialists.
* Contribute regularly to on‑call endoscopy rosters under direct supervision from the on‑call endoscopy consultant, with sessions delivered across UHBW sites including Bristol Royal Infirmary, South Bristol Community Hospital and Weston General Hospital (primarily in Bristol).
* Take part in organising and delivering endoscopy training both within UHBW and regionally, particularly through the Bristol Endoscopy Training Collaborative’s Upper GI Haemostasis and Colonic Polypectomy courses, which are run three times a year.
* Report directly to the clinical supervisor and be accountable to the employing trust’s responsible officer.

Qualifications & Requirements

* Current clinical trainees with a Training Programme Director (TPD) endorsement. All applicants must provide evidence of support from their TPD and be able to start on the specified date.
* Full or partial approval for Out‑of‑Programme Training (OOP‑T) status, with duration dependent on the OOP‑T application and SAC approval.
* Proficiency in spoken English sufficient to meet the requirements of Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016. This will be assessed at interview.
* Availability to commit to the 12‑month programme and to attend all scheduled training and clinical sessions.
* For candidates requiring visa sponsorship, eligibility under the UKVI points‑based system must be verified before application.

Benefits & Support

* Access to a structured training programme designed to enhance diagnostic and procedural skills in endoscopy.
* Opportunity to work on the back‑fill of specialist sessions, giving clinical exposure and flexibility.
* Support from the Trust in maintaining and improving health and wellbeing, as well as career development through management and training resources.
* UHBW’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

Equality and Diversity

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, who are under‑represented within the Trust. UHBW is an equal opportunities employer, actively working to recruit and retain a workforce that reflects the diversity of the local population.

Application Process

All trainee applicants must provide evidence of support from their Training Programme Director and be able to start the post on Tuesday 8th September 2026. Applications should be submitted through the Trust’s official channels—no payments or non‑standard communications are requested. All information collected will be securely stored and transferred in accordance with NHS data‑handling policies.
