Job overview

The post holder will join the Clinical Trials Assistant (CTA) Team, with one of the Directorate Research Teams.

The CTA Team work cross-site, to support the delivery of first class quality care to research participants within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH).

The CTA Team manage a portfolio of research studies that are conducted within STH Clinical Directorates and within the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF).

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the Senior Research Sister, the post holder support the CTA team to deliver a portfolio of clinical trials, from study set up to archiving, in accordance with clinical trial protocols, laboratory manuals and all relevant regulatory standards.

The role will involve completing and submitting documents to the Clinical Research and Innovation Office (CRIO) obtain approvals; collecting, recording and maintaining research data records; entering activity data and extracting information from databases, providing clinical and administrative support to Research Nurses including performing clinical tests and investigations, processing and shipping samples and assisting with screening and recruitment processes. Post holders may also support, and be responsible for, relevant studies in their own right.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. RGN Level one
2. NMC registered
3. To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998
4. Extensive evidence of continuous professional development Including post graduate qualifications and/ or academic research qualifications
5. First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)

Desirable criteria

6. Postgraduate Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Extensive post registration experience within a broad range of clinical settings
8. Specialist training relevant to role: Up to date Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
9. Experience of delivering early phase research studies
10. Good IT skills; competent in standard PC packages (i.e. Microsoft Office or equivalent)

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

11. Good understanding of the local and national strategic context of research in the NHS
12. Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis and with groups.
